Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt Bowl

Pie Greek yogurt tastes like dessert but is a healthy fall snack.

Pumpkin Pie Greek yogurt is the perfect fall-inspired healthy snack. It is creamy, satisfying and cozy. It is full of protein and calcium and makes a great morning snack. You can enjoy it as is or as a dip for fruit. Apples and pears go well with it and are in season at the same time as pumpkin.

If you only have a few minutes to make something and you have some pumpkin puree to use up, this is a great option. It is a much healthier alternative to presweetened yogurt or store-bought fruit dips and tastes much better.

Pumpkin is a nutrient-rich food. Like other orange veggies, it is high in beta-carotene, an important antioxidant for eye health. It also has Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and potassium.

It is also low in calories and high in fiber.

What makes a balanced snack?

Snacks are meant to hold us over until the next meal. Ideally, snacks should contain at least two food groups and have some protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fat.

Including at least one fruit or vegetable in snacks can help us meet our nutrient needs and adds color, texture, crunch, and fiber.

In this Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt, Greek yogurt is the protein source (and also contains carbohydrates). I recommend a 1-2% fat yogurt for more satiety.

If you were eating this as a yogurt bowl, adding chia seeds, hemp hearts, or flaxseeds is a great way to add healthy fat and fiber. You could also top it with some almond butter which would be delicious and add more creaminess.

This yogurt works well as a dip and is kid-friendly. Kids love dipping! It is a great after-school snack served with apple or pear slices and some graham crackers for dipping.

What do you need to make Pumpkin Pie Greek Yogurt?

You only need a few ingredients to make this delicious fall snack! Plus, you can feel free to add toppings of your choice based on what you have on hand.

Greek Yogurt – Greek yogurt is preferred for this recipe because of the higher protein content and thick and creamy texture. Use plain so there are no added sugars. A 1-2% fat content works well (fat-free is also fine) but you could go higher if you’d like.

Pumpkin puree – this recipe is a great way to use up leftover pumpkin puree. Be sure to use pure pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling which has lots of added sugars.

Maple syrup –maple syrup is the sweetener of choice because the flavor pairs well with pumpkin and adds cozy fall vibes. You could also use honey or even brown sugar.

Cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice – cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice can be used to add warmth and more flavor to the bowl.

Optional toppings: pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, hemp hearts, or flax seeds would make great additions and provide healthy omega-3 fats and fiber.

Fruit – if you are enjoying this yogurt as a fruit dip, apples or pears go well.

Graham crackers – Graham crackers are lower in sugar compared to cookies and have a lovely sweet flavor. Dip them in the yogurt for a fun treat.
