I’m an avid food and recipe writer. In the kitchen cooking up something new for my kiddos and husband is where I’m happiest.
Cooking has always been a part of my life. While other kids were taking dance lessons or art classes, I was at my local community center learning how to cook. I also spent time investing in my Italian background as I watched my Nonna’s cook fresh pasta, ravioli, zucchini bread and other meals using vegetables fresh from the garden. I eventually dove into working with experienced chefs in a cooking school where I was able to learn from their experience as an assistant. Because this brought me so much joy, I continued my education by taking cooking courses at George Brown College in Toronto.
In high school, I took a food and nutrition class and this is where my interest in healthy eating really developed. The impact that nutrition has on our overall health and well-being inspired me to eat well from a young age and make changes to my diet, even as a teenager.
My passion for nutrition and love of food and cooking then led me to get a Bachelor of Applied Science in Food and Nutrition and a Master’s of Nutrition Communication. After completing a dietetic internship, I began working at a mental health hospital. I’ve worked there for 10 years now, and as part of my job, I teach patients how to cook healthy meals on a budget.
And because I now live in one of the most expensive areas of Canada, I’ve had to learn how to cook easy, affordable meals for my family.
Once I mastered how to feed my family with less expensive, healthier recipes, I knew I had to share my knowledge with other women so they could do the same. My goal is to teach you how to use simple, fresh ingredients to create delicious meals with a sensible budget.
