I’ve partnered with Egg Farmers of Ontario (@eggfarmersont) to talk about nutrition for babies. #ad Eggs are a great addition to any meal or snack (including ones for baby’s!). They have always been one of my go-to foods to serve my kids since they started eating solids. Babies have small stomachs so you want to ensure that every bite they eat is full of nutrition and eggs are a perfect option. Eggs contain iron, protein, Vitamin B12, choline, selenium, and many other vitamins and minerals to support baby’s growth. In fact, one egg has 100% of a baby’s choline needs, a nutrient important for their developing brain. Always ensure that eggs are fully cooked before serving them to a baby. You can start to offer eggs to babies at 6 months old*. The way I cut up eggs in the video is for a baby who is at least 9 months old and starting to work on their pincer grasp (being able to hold something between their thumb and first finger). The soft and moist texture of eggs makes them a great option for a finger food. I served the eggs with some mashed sweet potato, which is another nutrient-rich food with a soft texture that is good for babies. There are many different ways to serve eggs to babies, from omelets, hard boiled, scrambled or in baked goods like pancakes and muffins. Be sure to research and ensure you offer appropriate sizes/shapes to your baby based on their age. Try this whipped cottage cheese with cranberries for a healthy and festive breakfast or snack. It is such a pretty colour, it’s easy to make, and so nutritious! It only has a touch of maple syrup to balance out the flavours and is not too tart. Cranberries are also popular during the holidays but they are full of antioxidants and deserve a place in your diet all year. A lot of their nutrition is in the skin so eating them whole, like in this recipe, helps you get all those nutrients in. I often have a bag in the freezer. Give this a try!
