Cinnamon and nutmeg: these warm spices pair perfectly with apples and add great fall-flavor.

Egg: This provides structure as well as protein into the recipe.

Baking powder: helps the cake rise.

Canola oil:  using oil instead of butter creates a moist cake. If you don’t have canola oil, you can use any neutral cooking oil you have.

Sugar:  Regular sugar is used to add sweetness to this cake.

Milk: Milk adds some protein and fat to the recipe and helps keep it moist. You can also use a plant-based if you prefer.

Baking Apples: Sweet and tart apples are the main flavor in this cake.Apples have some vitamin C and are a good source of fiber. Keep the peel on if you’d like for more texture and nutrition. Apple varieties that hold their shape well when baked include Cortland, Jonagold, Honeycrisp, and Northern Spy

Chopped walnuts: Add a crunch and nutty flavor to the cake. You can substitue walnuts with pecans or leave the nuts out if you have an allergy or want to make it more kid-friendly.

How to make this recipe

This cake is so easy and quick to put together.

Start by getting all your ingredients ready and by lining the bottom of two 6-inch round cakepans with parchment paper. Air-fryers are much smaller than ovens so the cakes need to be cooked one at a time. The 6-inch size will fit into most air-fryers.

Then, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl and mix to combine.

In another bow, combine the egg, oil, brown sugar, and milk. Mix with a fork or whisk to combine.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until almost combined.

Add the chopped apples and walnuts if you are using them and gently them fold in.

Preheat the air-fryer to 325°F (162°C)/

Bake the cakes one at a time for 13-15 minutes until the top is lightly brown and the cake is cooked through. To ensure the cake is cooked through, insert a toothpick into the centre. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.

Cool for 10 minutes in the pan. To remove the cake, run a knife along the edge of the pan and turn the cake out. Cool for an additional 5 minutes and serve warm.

Top with powdered sugar if desired.
